Have your say on fracking
FRACKING is one of these issues many folk might think doesn’t affect them. It’s one for thon “environmentalist”.
But if you live in a former mining area, chances are it does. That means everyone in Scotland’s central belt, stretching from Stirlingshire to Lothian to Ayrshire and parts of Dumfries and Galloway.
Where there’s coal, there’s gas and it can be fracked.
The Scottish Government have a moratorium on fracking, meaning it cannot go ahead without a full public consultation and health review. It is vitally important that as many people as possible contribute to that consultation.
In England, the Tories have over-ruled communities and given permission to frack under houses. In Scotland, we are listening to communities – the complete opposite of down south.
I oppose fracking. I believe it is dirty, disruptive and poses a danger to both the water supply and air quality.
The small number of jobs it could support will be offset by losses elsewhere, not to mention the health costs. Look at any former mining community and ask yourself: “Was this a good legacy?” The profits go elsewhere. Communities and people bear the scars for decades.
That’s why it is so important that everyone who can contributes to the consultation before it closes at the end of May. Make your voice heard. The Taiwanese granny was gifted the high fashion item by a doting grandson as a treat.
She was not designer-savvy and saw it as an ideal opportunity to replace her leaky shopper.
I have never been keen on Louis Vuitton, not that I’ll ever own one. They are too flashy and obvious.
The great designer William Morris said you should not keep anything that wasn’t useful or beautiful.
I reckon the granny has the right idea. Maybe she, like me, was not overly impressed by the posh handbag. But at least it was being put to good use.
