Fired-up Brady in nick of time

-

THE full-time whistle could not arrive fast enough for Queen’s boss Gus MacPherson – after Anton Brady grabbed a last-gasp leveller for the Spiders.

Albion Rovers made it five games unbeaten on the bounce with three draws and two wins but it could have been more with Darren Young’s side leading until injury time.

A superb strike from Ryan Wallace 20 minutes in put the home side ahead but a cross turned shot from Brady caught them out to steal a point in the final moments.

And Spiders boss MacPherson said: “We thoroughly deserved that.

“We had to contend with a lot of time wasting and I couldn’t believe the referee was only going to add three minutes on.

“But when we scored I asked if he could stop the game now! That’s what you get from perseverance, plugging away and trying play on the front foot – you get the reward.”

Albion had the ball in the net after 10 minutes when keeper William Muir misjudged a long ball allowing Wallace to latch on to it and tap into an empty goal but it was flagged offside.

But 10 minutes later Wallace struck from 25 yards out to find the top corner with a stunning halfvolley that left the keeper no chance.

The visitors were looking to bounce back before the break and came close 42 minutes in when David Galt’s effort from close-range rattled off the woodwork.

Queen’s Park thought they had been awarded a penalty moments later when David Zanatta raced into the area before going down but the ref booked him for diving.

After the restart Jamie McKernon’s free-kick floated inches wide.

At 90 minutes the hosts looked comfortable – until a minute later when Brady found the top corner to clinch a dramatic last-gasp point.

Albion boss Young said: “It’s really disappointing. It was a freak goal, he was trying to cross it and it went in at the back post.”
