MEL B has claimed she tried to commit suicide after 10 years of alleged abuse by her husband.
The former Spice Girl, 41, claimed she swallowed a bottle of aspirin but was then allegedly stopped from calling 999 by Stephen Belafonte.
He allegedly instead blocked her in the bathroom and said: “Die, bitch”.
It is among a number of disturbing claims made by Mel on Monday which led to a judge granting a restraining order against her ex as part of their bitter divorce.
They include claims of beatings and sexual exploitation by Belafonte, who also allegedly got the couple’s nanny pregnant.
A Los Angeles court decreed Belafonte, 41, should immediately leave the marital home in the city and have no contact with the star or her children.
Belafonte vehemently denied the allegations, saying “someone’s set me up to look like a bad guy”.
Mel’s suicide attempt in December 2014 came in the midst of filming X Factor finals and seven months after Belafonte allegedly got nanny Lorraine Gilles pregnant.
In Mel’s legal submission, she claimed she started suffering abuse almost immediately after the pair married in June 2007.
She alleged in the documents she repeatedly tried to leave Belafonte but he “threatened me with violence and threatened to destroy my life in every possible way … destroy my career and take my kids from me”. Mel, who filed for divorce last month, claimed Belafonte forced her to “participate in sexual intercourse with him and random women” and often secretly recorded the trysts. She alleged that when she tried to resist threesomes, he would threaten to release the sex tapes, including to children’s services, in an attempt to have her kids taken away. Last weekend, a friend of Lady Victoria Hervey, 40, said the socialite had joined the couple in a threesome after drinking red wine and tequila in November 2007.
In the claims, Mel said of her suicide bid: “In a moment of emotional and physical exhaustion, I took an entire bottle of aspirin.
“I immediately regretted the action and tried to call 999 and the respondent [Belafonte] blocked me from calling for help.
“He threw me in the bedroom (without a phone) and locked the door, telling me to ‘die, bitch’.”
She added she tried to escape only for Belafonte – who has a conviction for battering his ex Nicole Contreras – to “slam the door on my head”.
Mel claimed the extent of her injuries were only discovered when her chauffeur-driven car took her to work on the X Factor the next day.
She spent two days in hospital. The document said police were later contacted but Belafonte allegedly left the UK, avoiding any possible questioning.
When Mel returned to the X Factor, viewers were concerned by bruises and scratches on her body.
Mel later posted on Instagram: “I’m very good was very polly [sic] but much better now and for the record my hubby never would lay a hand on me sorry took so long but any response fuels rumors.”
Belafonte tweeted: “I don’t usually respond to Twitter msgs but I will respond to comments of
hitting wife which I think are quite disgusting untrue.”
A source alleged: “Although no one was sure what was going on, Simon and the team at Syco really became concerned at the X Factor finale in 2014.”
In her legal submission, Mel claimed Belafonte was “large, extremely aggressive, hostile and violent individual”.
The mum of three, who has daughter Madison with Belafonte, claimed he often degraded her in front of Lorraine, 26, an exchange student from Germany, after she became employed in 2010.
She alleged: “I later discovered that respondent was having sex with Lorraine and was paying her inordinate amounts of money.” When Lorraine allegedly fell pregnant to Belafonte, Mel claimed he ordered the nanny – allegedly paid £241,000 of her money “for alleged nanny services” – to undergo an abortion, paid for by the singer.
Mel claimed one of the most violent incidents took place the day after the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.
Belafonte allegedly pushed her down to the floor, dragging her face along the carpet. The Leeds-born singer claimed he forced her to tweet she injured herself after falling over in high heels.
It came after she was pictured with a bandage on her face. She tweeted: “Running in 7 inch Louboutin no good!!”
Weeks earlier, she was allegedly punched in the face between appearances as a judge on Australia’s X Factor. Mel claimed Belafonte flew into fit of rage over her being paired with singer Usher on the show and split her lip.
Asked how she would go on camera with the injury, he allegedly told her she should have thought of that before deciding to “flirt with and f*** Usher”.
Mel claimed such incidents occurred whenever she achieved success “to let me know he was in charge”. She filed for divorce last month after her dad died. Belafonte allegedly said: “Suck it up. If he’s going to die, he’s going to die.”
Belafonte denied Mel’s claims. He said: “I haven’t heard these allegations.
“You know what my comment on this is, as this is the mother of my children? I’m really, really distraught my brain how this is going to affect our children [sic], and the depths that she’s gone to.
“That’s it. I’m shocked at those allegations, and that’s what it is.
“I think someone’s set me up to look like a bad guy. Obviously you saw my house got raided and nobody found anything. It’s accusation after accusation. But we’ll have our day in court.
“And we have children. Why do this? We were friends two weeks ago. And now all of a sudden the team gets around and now it’s got to be this.”
