Allardice can be Ray of light for Tangerines

- EUAN McARTHUR

DUNDEE UNITED boss Ray McKinnon is poised to hand starlet Scott Allardice his debut in tomorrow’s crunch clash with Falkirk.

The talented teenager is in line to be thrown into the visit of their second-top Championship rivals where victory would move the Tangerines to within a point of Peter Houston’s men.

United are aiming to get their promotion push back on track in the wake of last weekend’s 4-2 defeat at Queen of the South.

And manager McKinnon is preparing to unleash Scotland Under-19 midfielder Allardice in the hope he can help them return to winning ways at Tannadice.

McKinnon said : “Scott’s ready and has no fears.

“His performances have been outstanding in the Under-20s.

“He’s a big lad who can run, play and pass. He has been away with Scotland Under-19s recently and I watched him earlier this week for our Under-20s.

“He has really improved and is right in my thoughts for Saturday.”

Meanwhile, McKinnon has challenged his troops to pick themselves up and take maximum points from Falkirk and then Dunfermline in Tuesday’s rearranged clash on Tayside.

He said: “If we win our next two games we go second in the league and that’s our message to the players. We’re still right in the thick of it.”
