Alex: We’re not stupid... it’s crisis point for Caley
ALEX FISHER insists the relegation-threatened Inverness Caley Thistle players understand the gravity of the situation they are in.
Boos rang out at Caledonian Stadium as Caley’s survival bid was dealt another hammer blow after a 3-0 defeat by St Johnstone left the basement boys four points adrift at the foot of the Premiership.
Afterwards gaffer Richie Foran questioned whether his men fully understood the agony relegation would bring but Fisher insists they’re not kidding themselves about the seriousness of their plight.
Fisher, back in the team for the first time since September, said: “We’re not stupid – we know the situation. We know the pressure that’s on our shoulders and it’s not easy to play freely like that.
“Coming in after six months or so without a game was difficult for me but it’s the kind of pressure I relish. That’s why I play the game.
“The manager is frustrated and we are too. We have to take our share of responsibility, it’s only fair.”
But Fisher – who has only made three starts since joining the club last January – is at a loss to explain why Caley couldn’t capitalise on good spells of play against Saints.
He said: “We have good periods in games but we don’t really had clear-cut chances.
“Having had the majority of possession in the middle to final third, the first goal was a blow.
“I felt losing the goal at the end of the first half could have given us a spark but they scored late on.
“It’s disheartening for the fans but we can’t dwell on it. We need points and I don’t care how we do it.”
