I drove at 100mph to save victim

-

A MUM says she saved a stranger after the Manchester Arena atrocity by bundling him into her car and driving to hospital at 100mph.

Nurse Lianna Shutt, 29, was leaving the concert with her daughter Broganjean, 10, and husband Martin when they heard the explosion.

Lianna rushed back to the centre’s foyer and found a severely injured man called Gary, who had wounds to his shoulder, chest and legs and was bleeding heavily.

She said police allowed her to take Gary and his injured daughter, 11, from the scene.

Lianna said: “I knew he was bleeding to death. I had to make the devastating call to Gary’s wife that her husband had sustained traumatic injuries and that I was looking after their daughter.

“I drove at 100mph to get them to hospital and I was weaving in and out of cars.

“The police have told me they will cancel all my speeding tickets as it was a matter of life and death.

“I got him to North Manchester hospital and the surgeon said I was the first person to arrive. Even the ambulances hadn’t got there with casualties.”

Lianna called Gary “incredibly brave”, saying he had saved his daughter’s life by shielding her from the blast.

She added: “To have all those injuries and being in the back of my car, you would expect somebody like that to be screaming in pain. He was so calm.”
