SCOTS 27 C HEATWAVE FROM SPAIN

Country to enjoy weekend scorcher

- PAUL O’HARE p.ohare@dailyrecord.co.uk

SCOTLAND will be hotter than the Mediterranean this weekend as a 2000-mile-wide Spanish plume brings 80F heat.

The Met Office forecast sunshine for eastern and southern Scotland with today and tomorrow seeing temperatures pushing over 27C.

That would make Scotland hotter than Palermo, Sicily (26C) and almost as hot as Antigua (29C) in the Caribbean.

But sadly for some, the west of the country faces clouds and showers as well as heat, with 22C forecast in Glasgow.

And our highs will ease from Monday, with showers later in the week.

However, a weekend beach rush is expected to see tens of thousands of Scots hit the coast in the east.

Met Office forecaster Grahame Madge said: “Scotland could be close to its 29.4C hottest day of the year.

“27C is expected on Saturday and Sunday and one or two stations in Scotland may get above 27C.

“The best temperatures will be in eastern parts.

“It looks lovely but it will be 22C in the west, where a weather front will lurk. Monday looks like 23C highs for the country.

“A showery breakdown looks likely later.”

The Weather Outlook’s Brian Gaze added: “Heat is going off the scale in Spain and now hot weather is pushing north to Britain.

“A scorching 27C is possible in eastern Scotland, with weekend sunshine for a beach trip or BBQ.”
