Corpse find following disturbance leads to launch of murder probe
A MURDER probe has been launched after a man’s body was discovered following a disturbance.
About 10 police officers dressed in riot gear raced to the scene at Fernie Place in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, at around 3.30am on Sunday.
They entered a property before taking away two men.
A cordon was thrown up blocking the entrance to the street at its junction with Hamilton Road.
Police last night named the victim as Gary Clampett, 39.
Residents say they were told to stay indoors. Forensics officers could be seen scouring the road for clues. Some locals claimed the victim was beaten to death while others said he had been stabbed.
One source told the Record: “The police were out in force and telling people not to leave their homes.
“There was apparently a pretty serious violent incident and we’ve heard somebody was beaten to death.”
An ambulance was also on the scene shortly after the incident occurred.
Detective Inspector Gary Winter, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with Gary’s family and friends.
“We are following a number of lines of inquiry.”
