More gun cops on our streets

SCOTS police are reacting to the mosque attack by putting more armed officers on the streets.

Mosques and other places of worship are among sites where extra officers will be on duty.

Police Scotland assistant chief constable Nelson Telfer said: “There is no specific threat to Scotland, however we are increasing armed patrols in response to the attack.

“We continue to engage with all communitie­s, providing reassuranc­e and appropriat­e support.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon chaired a Scottish Government resilience meeting. She said: “This was a horrific attack and my thoughts go out to everyone affected.

“I convened a resilience meeting this afternoon to ensure we are closely monitoring the situation. While there is no intelligen­ce of any specific threat to Scotland, Police Scotland remain vigilant and visible across communitie­s to provide reassuranc­e to the public.

“Muslim communitie­s will understand­ably be anxious just now. It is in these moments that we must come together as a country and unite against extremism and hate.”

The Muslim Council of Scotland said: “This attack was aimed directly at the vibrant Muslim community during Ramadan. Our heart goes out to the people of London who have been through so much.”

Church of Scotland Moderator the Right Reverend Derek Browning said: “All acts of brutality and terrorism are to be condemned. At times like this, all people of faith and goodwill join together peaceably, compassion­ately and prayerfull­y with those caught up in the events of Finsbury Park.”
