Rod and football pals help Strachan and wife celebrate 40th anniversary
FOOTBALL stars and Sir Rod Stewart teamed up to help Scotland boss Gordon Strachan and his wife Lesley celebrate their ruby wedding.
Stewart, 72, serenaded the couple in the Spanish resort of La Manga as they enjoyed a holiday to mark 40 years of marriage.
And some of Strachan’s football pals joined the fun, including Hibs boss Neil Lennon and his former Leeds team-mate Gary McAllister.
Stewart and wife Penny Lancaster posed for photos with the happy couple.
Penny posted on Instagram: “Happy 40th wedding anniversary Gordon and Lesley.”
Broadcaster Dougie Donnelly also sent good wishes. He tweeted: “Congratulations to Lesley and Gordon Strachan on their ruby wedding celebrations @LaMangaClub. The ‘turn’ seems to have done well.”
Strachan, who saw his Scotland side draw 2-2 with England at Hampden this month, had earlier revealed how the couple spent their honeymoon at Wembley.
They watched Scotland win 2-1 in 1977 and took part in the famous pitch invasion.
He said: “I took my wife and best man to the game. Unfortunately, his wife couldn’t get in. We only had three tickets. So she had to stay in Watford.
“I wasn’t one of the first on the pitch. There were three of us standing there when a policeman said, ‘You might as well go on as well, son’.”
