A VETERINARY nursing student who died in a car accident has been awarded a posthumous first-class honours degree. Meghan Ambrozevich-Blair, 26, was killed in a crash on the A1 near Dunbar, East Lothian, as she drove to work the day after her final exam at Edinburgh’s Napier University in December. The tragedy left her parents Kevin and Lauren, brothers Jared and Ethan and fiance Scot devastated. They paid tribute yesterday after learning Meghan had been awarded a first. Her family said: “Meghan’s loss has affected all the family deeply but we take comfort from the fact that all the creatures in animal heaven are being very well cared for. “We are extremely proud of our daughter’s achievement. “Meghan worked so hard at university, on placements and overseas, learning about and caring for animals.” She excelled on the course despite having dyslexia and dyscalculia. They added: “It meant she had to work harder than most to keep up with fellow students.”

The university are honouring their latest graduates this week and staff said Meghan had earned her top grade through “hard work and good humour”.

Dr David Smith, life sciences programme leader, said: “She was on track to be one of the outstanding students in the history of the programme, not just academically but also in being at the forefront of showing what veterinary nurses can do.”

Meghan, who campaigned against animal cruelty, travelled to India in 2015 with a team from the university to help train veterinary nurses there.

Her friend Kirsty Dougherty said: “The world seemed like a kinder place when she was around. Her compassion and energy were boundless – she is sorely missed.”
