Kev:ICT’s treatment hasbeena shambles
KEVIN McNAUGHTON may be ready to call time on his playing career after branding treatment by Inverness a “shambles” since the end of the season.
The ex-Aberdeen, Cardiff and Scotland defender claims he was promised a new contract by the club before John Robertson succeeded Richie Foran.
Caley Thistle’s official website claimed – and it was then widely reported – the 34-year-old had been asked to stay but it was an invitation McNaughton insists never materialised.
Now, after battling back from nine months out with a ruptured Achilles, the disillusioned veteran is considering hanging up his boots after 18 years as a top-level pro.
McNaughton, who joined Inverness from Wigan last summer, said: “I’m humming and hawing about whether I want to keep playing.
“I spoke to Inverness and it was a bit of a shambles really. At the end of last season I was told I would be offered a new contract but, with the manager going, I’ve been in limbo not knowing what’s going on.
“With the new manager coming in I hadn’t heard anything for a couple of weeks.
“At the end of last week I was told they weren’t going to offer anything and I was quite surprised by that.
“It’s left me with a decision on whether or not I keep playing and find a club elsewhere so it’s back to the drawing board.”
