Black: Gers chief’s claims are slight on Steelmen as much as Hoops

“Every league in the world has rules and whoever finishes top at the end of a season are worthy champions. I certainly don’t look upon Celtic as a club that has only won two titles in a row.

“Those achievemen­ts are there for all to see in black and white and will still be there for all to see in for time immortal. It will show Celtic have been the champions for the last six years.”

One look at the record books shows Scottish football’s big two have been split by provincial clubs more often than would suggest a nailed-on Old Firm monopoly.

And Black added: “Traditiona­lly it has always been about Celtic and Rangers vying for the title.

“Then you had the New Firm of Dundee United and Aberdeen coming on the scene. I was also part of the Hearts team that lost the league title on the last day of the 1985-86 season but I won’t dwell on that.

“There’s a belief our top flight has always been a two-horse race between Celtic and Rangers but you’ve have to rewrite history for that to be the case.

“There are a host of teams who would have a decent case to make against that, with Motherwell being just one of a number who have split the Old Firm.

“That said there is a big, big gulf at the moment between Celtic and the rest of the clubs. There’s always a team that takes a turn at upsetting
