Labour want answers over hospital fears
SCOTTISH Labour will demand answers from the SNP today over fears that a swathe of hospital units face the axe.
Health spokesman Anas Sarwar will tell Health Secretary Shona Robison to make a full statement to MSPs on the future of local services in Glasgow and the west.
There are fears for a long list of services in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area, including: ● The children’s ward at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley ● Lightburn Hospital in Glasgow, which offers rehabilitation services for the elderly ● Maternity services at the Inverclyde Royal and Vale of Leven hospitals ● The minor injuries service at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow
Labour claim the NHS has been forced to take a back seat while the SNP government campaign on the constitution.
Sarwar said: “The Scottish people are desperate for the SNP Government to get back to the day job, and when it comes to the health service the in tray is stacked.
“The futures of a range of services are in the balance. It would be disgraceful to leave staff and patients hanging on over the summer while ministers plot their next move on independence.”
Sarwar claimed the SNP had mismanaged the NHS for a decade. He urged them to “clear the in tray before the summer recess and give patients some reassurance”.
