PM branded ‘weak’ after cross-party plea

THERESA MAY has been told she is a busted flush after making an appeal for cross-party co-operation on Brexit.

The PM’s desperate offer to give opposition parties a say was rebuffed by Labour as proof she had “run out of ideas”.

The SNP said the humbled Prime Minister should put her words into action with real concessions to the Scottish Government on Brexit.

May is planning to use a speech today to invite Jeremy Corbyn and other political rivals to “clarify and improve” Government policies.

In a turn-around from her previous high-handed approach to allies and opponents, May is set to concede that she needs help to get Britain through Brexit. But Labour torpedoed any hope of co-operation on May’s latest attempt to relaunch her premiership after the humiliation of the election result and her need to strike a deal with the Democratic Unionist Party.

In the Commons, Labour leader Corbyn offered the PM a copy of the Labour manifesto for ideas. He added: “Better still, she should call an election in order that the people of this country can decide. This government has run out of steam at a pivotal moment. Just when we need strong government we have weakness.”

The SNP said the “humbled” Prime Minister must put her warm words about working with others into action after a year of belittling opponents.

Stephen Gethins MP, the SNP’s Europe spokesperson, said: “Despite warm words about listening to others when she took office, the simple fact is Theresa May has done her level best to ignore, sideline and belittle her opponents over the last year.

“All of us, whether we voted Leave or Remain, want Brexit to be a success.

“The Scottish Government produced serious and detailed compromise proposals responding to Brexit which would protect jobs and Scotland’s economy – the UK government must now give these proper and genuine consideration.”
