It was great to see Paul back with the Toon legends ..I’d love to see him in a Gers strip now

RANGERS Former Ibrox star Miller hopes Gazza can stay healthy and pull on blue shirt again

CHARLIE MILLER insists Paul Gascoigne’s return to health won’t be complete until he’s back playing in a Rangers shirt.

The former Ibrox star saw pictures of his old team-mate make a scoring return to action in Newcastle colours for a Pavel Srnicek XI on Sunday to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice and it gladdened his heart.

But he has issued an invite to the 50-year-old to make an appearance for an Ibrox legends side and take another step in his battle against the alcoholism which has taken him to the brink.

He said: “I first saw that Gazza was playing through Facebook and I made a comment on it.

“He was looking so good and he scored which was great. One look at the pictures of him in action showed that he still loves the game. I would love to get him back playing in a Rangers strip again and that has to be the aim now.

“A lot of the former Gers play in Rangers legends games and it would be great to get him involved.

“The biggest issue would be the people who look after his interests now and I doubt we could pay the type of money they’d be looking for.

“Even just seeing him with a pair of shorts on again and a ball at his feet was heartwarming for all of us who love him. And he looked well.

“It has become the normal thing to look at reports in the press about Gazza and he has been up to no good.

“This story makes a refreshing change as it was good to read about the old Gazza again.

“It’s magic to see. What a character he was during his time at Rangers so it has been so sad to hear the negative things in his life over the years. This was a real tonic though.

“Happy and looking good is hopefully going to be the future for him. I just hope we get to see him in a Rangers jersey some time soon.

“I haven’t spoken to him for a couple of years but I’d love to see him again.

“He changes his mobile number more often than he changes his underpants

“That’s not strictly true as Gazza doesn’t change his pants that often but he’s a hard man to track down.

“It’s difficult to keep up with him as he jumps from one number to another number week after week which is a pity.”

Gazza turned out alongside the likes of Peter Beardsley and Keith Gillespie in a friendly in Gateshead and scored the last goal in a 7-1 win over Sunday League side Felling FC XI. He certainly looked to have that old spring in his step.
