When I grow up I’m going to be the smallest dog in the world

Meet 9cm Princess Harlequin, the tiny pet with big ambitions..

A SCOTS mum reckons her pet Chihuahua is a contender for the world’s smallest dog.

Almost fully-grown at five months old, Princess Harlequin is only a shade above 9cm tall and can barely see over the top of a can of Irn-Bru.

The tiny dog – who lives with her owner, Ashleigh McCluskey, in Bellshill, Lanarkshire – is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and instead of a dog lead, she needs a ferret harness.

But Ashleigh revealed: “She doesn’t like the harness – she prefers to be carried. She actually belongs to my seven-year-old daughter Payton.

“We believe she is on track at this rate to take the record since Chihuahuas are usually fully-grown by six months and she is the size of a mouse.

“If she stays this size for her first birthday, she could scoop the Guinness record. We’ll be contacting them when she’s old enough to be considered.”

The smallest living dog by height is Milly, a Chihuahua from Puerto Rico who measures 9.65cm tall. She has held the record since February 2013.

US Chihuahua Brandy is the smallest dog by length, measuring a tiny 15.2cm.

A Guinness spokeswoman said yesterday: “While we do monitor this record title, among the many rules in our guidelines the dog must be a fully-grown adult of at least one year old before any measurements can be

taken.”
