WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS BBC2, 6pm; BBC1, 7pm PREPARE to do the Mobot tonight as Britain’s greatest distance athlete Mo Farah goes for another gold in the men’s 10,000 metres.
The event is the highlight of this opening evening of the 10-day athletics championships, reminiscent of those glory days of the 2012 Olympic Games.
And one the greatest names in sport will be given a send-off during the event – Usain Bolt, who is looking to bow out by adding to his 11 World Championship gold medals in London.
He will line up in the 100m first round from 8.20pm. Brit CJ Ujah starts too, and is keen to rain on Usain’s retirement parade.
But Mo’s race at 9.20pm is the one to watch tonight. He’s unbeaten in major championships since winning two gold medals at the 2012 Games. Also in action, in the women’s 1500m heats, is Laura Muir. The recordbreaking Scot will be hoping to progress to the semi-final in her bid for her first major championship outdoor medal. Before all that excitement, Gabby Logan kicks off proceedings with the opening ceremony. This is the first time a city in the UK has hosted the event in the championship’s 34-year history. Coverage then continues all night, with expert analysis from eight-time world champion Michael Johnson and commentary from 1500m world gold medallist Steve Cram, marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe, Olympic heptathlon champion Denise Lewis, double 110m hurdles world champion Colin Jackson, former javelin world record holder Steve Backley, as well as Brendan Foster and Andrew Cotter.
