HE’S LOGAN LUCKY

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

MOUNT LOGAN (4.50) can spearhead a lucrative double for Roger Varian in the ID Sports Conditions Stakes at Doncaster.

The six-year-old has run well in defeat in some strong contests this season and put in another respectable shift when second to Midterm at Epsom last month.

Proven on soft ground, the New Approach gelding can repeat last year’s success in this contest en route to better things.

The Newmarket handler can also take the trappy William Hill Handicap with LAHORE (4.20).

The three-year-old showed useful form when scoring at today’s venue and Windsor earlier in the term and ran better than the bare result when fifth in a Deauville Group 3 last time.

Still lightly raced, the Elusive Quality colt can come on plenty for the step up to seven furlongs in these calmer waters.

NOBLEMAN’S NEST (2.50) can also benefit from a big drop in class in the Owlerton Nursery. Simon Crisford’s juvenile was out of his depth in the Group 2 Gimcrack at York last time but had previously oozed class when bolting up at Newmarket in July.

The son of Poet’s Voice is likely to relish today’s first try at seven furlongs and should get back on track for his shrewd handler.

OFF ART (3.50) can make Brian Harding’s quick return to the saddle worthwhile in the Leger Legends Stakes.

Tim Easterby’s gelding showed signs of an imminent revival when third in a decent event at Redcar last time and looks well-handicapped on the pick of his old form.

A thriving MUATADEL (5.20) can bag his fourth win of the campaign in the closing sprint.

Roger Fell’s gelding improved again when runner-up to the useful Tarboosh at Ripon last time and can go one better on today’s softer surface.

■ Iain Jardine has confirmed Ebor hero Nakeeta will take his chance in November’s Melbourne Cup after receiving a cracking weight of 9st2lb for the Flemington spectacular.

■ Brian Meehan’s exciting juvenile Barraquero will miss the rest of the campaign after suffering a shin injury when landing the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last month.

■ All races at next year’s Cheltenham Festival will declare at the 48-hour stage.

Previously only the non-novice Grade Ones declared two days in advance, with the other races sticking to the usual National Hunt 24-hour stage.
