Robinson: My men are Well invested in club

- EUAN McLEAN

STEPHEN ROBINSON is pleased his players are buying into more than just his methods after they dipped their hands in their pockets to join the Well Society.

It was announced last week the first-team squad has signed up to the fan ownership group that successfully took over the majority share of the club last October.

That means the players, by setting up direct debit payments contributing to the Society’s fund, are partly paying their own wages.

And Fir Park boss Robinson reckons the gesture has brought the fans closer to the men who carry their hopes out on to the pitch as they will again today against Hibs at Easter Road.

He said: “Our MD Alan Burrows and I spoke to (captain) Carl McHugh and the players and they were very into it. They wanted to be part of it.

“To give that little bit back and for players to show that loyalty it wasn’t a lot to ask. They are all very proud to be a part of it.

“Crowds are up almost by 600 tickets and that’s pleasing. We’d love to get even more in and if you keep winning games then perhaps that’ll happen.

“We play a brand of football the crowd associates with. We tell them to chase every ball and don’t give up on anything. You can have a bad game but give 100 per cent every time you go on the pitch.

“We outcompete teams then play. If we keep doing that perhaps the fanbase will keep growing.”
