A FATHER of six was killed in an accident at a wood recycling plant – 15 months after his daughter died in tragic circumstances. Kenneth Aitchison suffered a head injury when he was hit by a vehicle at the EGGER Barony site in Auchinleck, Ayrshire, on Tuesday. He died at the scene, despite paramedics battling for almost two hours to save him. Haulage firm boss Kenneth, 60, from Airdrie, was dad to Kirsty Aitchison, 30. The mum of four, who was deaf, went missing after a night out in Glasgow in June last year. Her body was found in the River Clyde several days later. Her death was not treated as suspicious.

The latest tragedy to hit the family is being investigated.

Emergency crews were called to the chipboard production and wood recycling plant at 10.30am on Tuesday after the accident in a wood storage area.

Kenneth had three daughters, including Kirsty, with ex-wife Faye Aitchison. The couple split nine years ago.

Faye, who was married to Kenneth for 25 years, told the Record her ex was estranged from his children but they were shocked by his death. She added: “I was very sorry to hear it.”

Kenneth, who had three other children from a previous marriage, was the director of KLH Transport Limited.

His current partner was too upset to speak about his death when we contacted her at her home in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said: “A joint investigation between police and the Health and Safety Executive is under way to establish the circumstances of the death and inquiries are ongoing.”

An EGGER spokesman said: “The wood storage area is currently barricaded off while investigations, both by ourselves and the authorities, are carried out.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
