Ruth ‘still backing Theresa’

RUTH Davidson threw her support behind the embattled Prime Minister yesterday after MPs threatened a coup. The Scottish Tory leader said: “I supported Theresa May during the leadership contest, I support her now and I will continue to support her.” In Dundee last week, Chancellor Philip Hammond refused to endorse May as the right leader to take the party into the next election. Davidson, tipped by some in her party as a potential future UK leader, has always insisted her focus is on Holyrood. She was refusing to discuss Grant Shapps’s coup attempt further last night. But a source close to Davidson insisted the Scottish group of Tory MPs are behind May. He added that Davidson takes a “pretty dim view” of the attempted rebellion.
