Search for family of Scots VC
A SEARCH has been launched to find relatives of a Scot awarded the Victoria Cross before a ceremony to mark the centenary of his heroism.
Ayr-born Robert Shankland, who had emigrated to Canada, was honoured for his actions in the Battle of Passchendaele.
A commemorative stone will be laid in Ayr on October 26 but officials have failed to find any relatives.
South Ayrshire provost Helen Moonie said: “We’d dearly love to have family members present.”
Anyone who thinks they have a connection should ring 01292 612 474 or email provost@ south-ayrshire.gov.uk
