Pro-lifer ‘told mistress to lose baby’
A PRO-LIFE politician accused of urging his mistress to have an abortion has quit the US Congress.
Pennsylvania Republican Tim Murphy is said to have believed Shannon Edwards was pregnant by him.
Shannon texted him in January saying: “You had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options”, said the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Murphy is a sponsor of legislation that would make it a crime to perform an abortion after 20 weeks.
He admitted having an affair with Shannon after it was raised during her divorce proceedings.
Murphy said this week he would not seek re-election, and would seek help with his “personal difficulties”.
But he has now confirmed he’ll leave on October 21.
