Paul on top of world

PAUL CAMPBELL admits he is in dreamland after helping fire Fraserburgh to the top of the league.

The Buchan team took advantage of Cove Rangers’ Irn-Bru Cup distraction to knock the Aberdeen side off No.1 spot with a 7-3 victory over Deveronvale.

Campbell hit the opener before four-goal Willie West helped Broch race into a 5-0 lead before the break and end the match as a contest.

Now the forward’s experienced topping the table for the first time in his career he wants to remain there but is aware Cove are breathing down their necks.

Campbell said: “Willie is pretty much unplayable in that form. I’m chuffed to get on the scoresheet again.

“We were flying after the first goal. I’ve never been in this position before. It’s a brilliant feeling but Cove have two games in hand.”

Campbell set the ball rolling for Broch after 20 minutes and West hit a hattrick within a 22-minute spree towards the break.

He added the fourth after 54 minutes with Brian Hay also on target in the first half and Dean Cowie grabbing the late seventh.

Shell-shocked Vale replied in the second period through Ross Aitken and a William Pauline double.

Elsewhere Brora Rangers kept up the pressure with Scott Graham’s 75th-minute penalty sealing a 3-2 derby win away to Wick Academy.

Champions Buckie Thistle suffered a thumping setback at Inverurie, losing 3-0 to a Joe McCabe double and a late Martin Laing finish.

Lee Fraser’s double helped Forres Mechanics to a 3-1 win at Lossiemouth, while Cammy Bowden’s late winner sealed a 2-1 victory for Turriff at Strathspey.

Scott Davidson’s double in a 3-0 win at Keith continued Rothes progress.
