LIGHTBLUESAREBUILDINGFORFUTURE

- ANDREW SOUTHWICK

RANGERS LADIES have seen some great results this season and a lot of their success is down to new head coach Amy McDonald.

The former Glasgow City star and Scotland international took up the reins back in May with hopes of building on the Light Blues’ promising youth system.

And she’s been boosted by strong performances from the senior women’s side that have helped motivate youth players. A recent surge in girls playing football has also seen Rangers Academy step up plans to start two more soccer centres.

Peter Kennedy, Rangers soccer schools executive, said: “Amy is doing a great job and there is no doubt it’s really inspiring the kids.

“We have been patient and not rushed the girls’ team development. Every step of the way we’ve wanted to ensure that each player is looked after and receives the very best coaching in Scotland.”

Their patience is paying off with their girls’ teams producing what they hope will become stars of the future. Kennedy added: “We will shortly be starting Under-10s and Under-11s.

“Thanks to the success of the soccer centres we’re seeing more talent coming though.

“We won’t throw a team together – we will continue to take our time, develop the talent and build a strong football pathway.”
