MICHAEL’S OUT TO DO ‘EM PROUD

- CRAIG STEWART

COLVILLE PARK boss Michael Kennedy admits he feels pride as well as the weight of responsibility as the Scottish Amateur Cup holders get ready to face Peterhead today.

Kennedy is delighted his tightly-knitted together squad are facing up to a senior side for the first time but knows the hopes of thousands of amateur players are resting on their shoulders in this William Hill Cup tie.

He said: “We’re massive underdogs but this is a proud moment for us.

“As a squad the players have been together for three years and enjoyed a bit of success with two successive Scottish Amateur Cup wins.

“The boys are like family and that’s helped us achieve what we have.

“We deserve to be in this competition but this is a different level of opponents we’re facing.”

Colville travelled up to Aberdeen last night for an overnight stay with former Scotland Amateur Select skipper Kennedy saying: “We’re doing everything we can to make a good impression.

“We have a massive responsibility to the thousands of amateur players up and down the country to show we play at a good level.”

League Two leaders Stirling Albion welcome Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale who shocked Kelty Hearts and Inverurie Locos to reach this stage.

And Forthbank boss Dave Mackay admits he’s wary of visiting striker Sam Nhamburo and said: “I don’t know much about the opponents but I know they score goals and I’ve seen footage of a couple of crackers from Sam.

“I was going to spy on them but their game was called off so it’s a step into the unknown.”

Newly-appointed Elgin City gaffer Gavin Price takes his men against Edusport Academy with the Borough Briggs men well prepared

He said: “Edusport played at Rothes in a replay after the draw was made so spied on them. Rather than go in blind we know a bit about their players and their style.”

And two other senior managers make their Cup debuts at Shielfield where Robbie Horn’s Berwick Rangers meet Peter Murphy’s Annan.

Horn said: “They gave us a 5-1 spanking at our place earlier this season so we know how difficult this will be.”

Murphy said: “That game was unique as we converted every chance. Berwick have changed manager since and will be out for revenge.”
