McLean tops Del’s newdeal wish-list

DEREK McINNES is set to secure three of his key players on long-term deals this week.

The Aberdeen boss tied down rising star Scott Wright on a new four-year contract yesterday.

And with the Dons out of action until the visit of Celtic a week tomorrow, McInnes will now focus on doubling his efforts to persuade Kenny McLean to remain at Pittodrie.

McLean’s contract is up in the summer and he is free to talk to interested clubs in the January window when it’s expected Rangers will come back in for the former St Mirren midfielder.

The Ibrox club made a £300,000 bid at the start of the season but it was rejected by the Dons as McInnes set out to rebuild his squad following the departures of Jonny Hayes, Niall McGinn, Peter Pawlett and Ash Taylor.

McInnes will also enter talks with starlets Scott McKenna and Anthony O’Connor.

Wright’s contract was not due to expire until 2019 while the others are signed up until the end of this term.

His appearances in the current campaign have been limited but he has shown enough for McInnes to recognise he could have a big future.

Winger Wright, 20, said: “The manager spoke to me a couple of weeks ago and things moved quickly. I’m delighted to be staying and a lot has happened since I signed earlier in the year.”
