Bayern are in top Nic
NEW Anderlecht manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck insists they can produce a “footballing miracle” to beat PSG tomorrow night.
Defeats to Bayern Munich and Celtic have left the Belgians’ last-16 Champions League hopes hanging by a thread at the bottom of Group B.
But after inspiring Anderlecht to a 4-3 win at Mechelen in his first match in charge Vanhaezebrouck’s convinced he can stun French superstars PSG.
He said: “I have never gone into a game believing we can’t win and I won’t do that against PSG. But of course it will be a very difficult game.
“After losing 3-0 to Celtic it makes it very difficult to qualify but I believe in footballing miracles because they have happened before.” FORMER Celtic star Charlie Nicholas insists the Hoops face a “damage-limitation exercise” against Bayern Munich tomorrow.
The pundit, who made 209 appearances for the Parkhead club and scored 125 goals, also blasted Hoops No.1 Craig Gordon for providing motivation to the German side ahead of the Champions League game.
The keeper irked the former Celt by insisting the Hoops hadn’t given up on second place in the group and could pull off a shock in the Allianz Arena.
Nicholas said: “This is a game I’m not hopeful about given Celtic’s only decent recent display in the league was against Rangers while their performance wasn’t actually that good against Anderlecht.
“Gordon came out and said, ‘We’re set to challenge Bayern Munich’ and I just thought ‘Keep quiet.’
“Celtic will try to sit in in what will inevitably be a damage-limitation exercise.”
