JIM CRAIG believes Brendan Rodgers could combine his job of managing Celtic – and put Scotland back on the map.

The Lisbon Lion knows the SFA must get the decision right when they appoint Gordon Strachan’s successor and Craig reckons Rodgers could be their man.

Rodgers has been a phenomenal success at Parkhead, winning the Treble in his first season without losing a game and is unbeaten this campaign.

Craig’s legendary former Hoops gaffer Jock Stein also managed Scotland on a part-time basis while in charge at Celtic but quit after missing out on the 1966 World Cup in England.

Craig said: “Brendan has the capability of managing Celtic and Scotland but whether he would want to do it is another matter.

“Big Jock combined both jobs in 1965. It’s a different generation, although he could do it.

“If he felt he was up for it I’d have no qualms about saying yes. He picks players who are on form which not every manager does.

“They pick players they think would be best for the job. If you have someone on song then why not pick him?

“The two form players in Scotland right now are Leigh Griffiths and Callum McGregor. Just think – if wee Gordon had picked McGregor then things might have been different.”

Craig also believes his old side can shock Bayern in Germany tomorrow night and put them in with a chance of reaching the Champions League last 16.

He added: “I’m hopeful Celtic get through and it’s not beyond the bounds of possibility. They had their bad night against PSG.”

● Craig was speaking after the Lisbon Lions were inducted into Scottish football’s Hall of Fame in recognition of their historic European Cup win in 1967.
