Yogi’sin frameas Utd step uphunt
DUNDEE UNITED were last night frantically stepping up their search for a new manager – with John Hughes still leading the pack after initial talks were held.
The former Inverness Caley Thistle, Hibs and Falkirk boss is in the running to take over the vacant Tannadice hotseat after Ray McKinnon’s dismissal was confirmed yesterday.
Hughes, 53, would jump at the chance of taking over at the Tangerines who had him on their wanted list prior to Mixu Paatelainen’s appointment back in 2015.
And it’s understood talks have already been held between his agent and members of the United board who are looking for an experienced campaigner to succeed McKinnon.
United, currently trailing Championship leaders St Mirren by five points, hope to make an announcement within the next few days but whether any new manager will be in place for Saturday’s trip to face Dumbarton remains to be seen.
Ex-Ross County boss Jim McIntyre and former Hibs gaffer Alan Stubbs are also thought to be in the frame with interviews likely to take place over the next 48 hours.
United spent yesterday thrashing out the terms of McKinnon’s severance package in the wake of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Caley.
McKinnon said: “It’s disappointing my time as manager of United has come to an end. I wish the club every success.”
