Pink panties pub flasher avoids nick

Creep exposed himself to woman

A MARRIED dad wearing pink knickers cornered a woman in a pub toilet and exposed himself.

John Shovelin, 38, waited for his victim to leave a cubicle before dropping his trousers to reveal his private parts and “ladies’ coral pink pants”.

He pounced after following her to a bathroom but ran off when she shouted for help in the Wallace Bar and Grill in Paisley.

Yesterday, the creep avoided jail after admitting flashing at about 6pm on July 23. He was placed on the sex offenders’ register and put on a curfew.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew warned the pervert he will be caged if he breaks an order to stay at home. He said: “In the circumstances, I am prepared as an alternative to custody, to allow you to be liberated.”

CCTV images showed dad-of-two Shovelin scoping out his target at the pub before flashing.

His victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, blasted him as a danger to women after his guilty plea.

She said: “He didn’t have very much to flash. What he did to me was absolutely vile. I want him to know I’m not afraid of him.

“It’s disgusting that he’s been allowed back out on the streets. This man is a danger to the public. He should be locked up.”

Shovelin carried out the attack weeks after committing a separate offence.

He was placed under a curfew for that crime but reoffended outwith the hours of the original curfew.

Sheriff Pettigrew insisted there was a “significant sexual element” to his behaviour.

Shovelin, of Port Glasgow, has been ordered to remain at his home between 7pm and 7am.

A case review has been set for February 15.
