Gaffer is fired up by abuse from fan
GRAEME MURTY insists hammering Hamilton last season taught him to ignore internet trolls when making the big calls.
The Rangers caretaker boss led his side to a 6-0 win over Accies in the Scottish Cup during his stand-in stint last term.
But the biggest win of the season didn’t spare him from the keyboard warriors who slaughtered him for subbing Kenny Miller at half-time. Murty took a pic of the abuse and uses it as motivation to stick to his guns when taking big decisions.
The Gers youth coach, who will face Accies again in the league tomorrow, said: “I have good memories from the game against them last season as I got one of the all-time best tweets.
“I made the decision to change from Kenny to Joe Garner at half-time, against some advice I have to say.
“Someone tweeted ‘Miller off Garner on. Murty you haven’t got a clue,’ and the abuse after that was epic.
“I took a screenshot of it to say that whether it works or it doesn’t work you have to have the courage of your convictions.
“I’ve been criticised for not being confident enough and doing myself down so that was a good moment for my education. You have to portray yourself how you want to be perceived.
“It made me understand how I need to act to get the best out of the players.
“It was a big call to take Kenny off and although I’ve had credit recently for putting him in the team, taking him out back then was tough. I wasn’t 100 per cent sure it was a good idea, it just happened to pay off.” IT’S now three weeks since Pedro Caixinha was sacked as Rangers manager and we are still none the wiser who his successor is going to be. So what’s the delay? There can only be two reasons. They either can’t afford to pay the compensation to get someone who is in a job or they are taking their time to make sure they get this bang on. I really hope it’s the latter but I’m surprised it’s taken so long because I felt the international break was the perfect time to make a move. I understand you need to take time but it’s important to get your man in place with the January transfer window opening soon. The new manager will need time to assess his squad and see what he needs, that’s why they should be looking to get someone in. There is a lot of improvement needed at Rangers and a new manager will have a certain style of play he will want to implement. The fans pay good money and I can understand if they’re getting a bit twitchy. If you’ve got someone in mind then just go and get him because the indecision doesn’t help. The board have Graeme Murty to thank for the supporters not being more impatient because it hasn’t impacted on the park. The interim boss has put six points in the bag since Caixinha’s departure and you would expect him to do what the Portuguese didn’t manage during his seven months by making it three wins in a row when Hamilton visit Ibrox tomorrow. It might even be the case that the
