Moult vows to win the Cup for Well medical man and bring a new open-top bus pic back to Fir Park

MOTHERWELL striker Louis Moult insists he is more interested in Betfred Cup Final frame than fortune.

The Englishman has vowed to win the trophy for club doctor Mark Bonnes, who has a souvenir photo of Well’s open-top bus party from their 1991 Scottish Cup win on his wall.

Fir Park goal machine Moult has promised to add another snap to the doc’s wall of fame as he gets set to face Celtic at Hampden on Sunday.

He said: “I’ve heard a great deal about the 1991 Scottish Cupwinning squad. The club doctor has a picture of all the Motherwell boys on the bus celebrating.

“I remember saying to him last month, ‘I’ll get you another one of them’. I told him we would do our best to try to get him another picture and that’s exactly what we’re going to try to do.

“We want to become history makers both personally and as a football club. The doctor said, ‘Aye, that would be great’.”

Moult returns to the scene of his greatest career triumph this weekend after his glorious double sank Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers in the semi-final.

The English hitman is determined to make sure cup glory does not end at the final hurdle after dreaming he would be the Hampden hero against the Light Blues.

Having hammering Queen’s Park 5-1 at the National Stadium in July in their first Betfred Cup group match, Moult wants the Lanarkshire side to finish the job they started. He believes the victory over Rangers will stand the Steelmen in good stead as they look

to claim the scalp of Celtic. Moult, who netted his 50th goal for Motherwell during the weekend 2- 0 Premiership win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie said: “The semi-final against Rangers has to be at the top in terms of my career achievements. “I remember lying in the hotel room dreaming I was going to score against Rangers and we were going to win. “I didn’t think I would score two goals or the second would go in like that. On a personal note it was an unbelievable feeling but we deserved that as a football club. “We can’t just settle for that as we want more as a squad and a football club. I haven’t had any dreams about Sunday just yet! “It was a massive plus the semi-final against Rangers was at Hampden. We’ve been there and we’ve won a big game.

“It’s good that we have been there twice in fact. We started our cup campaign at Hampden against Queen’s Park and we’re going to finish it there.

“We started with a win and I believe we will finish with a win.

“A cup win will mean everything, absolutely everything. It would be brilliant for myself and each and every person at the club believes we can do it.

“I go into every game believing I’m going to score and that we are going into the game believing we can win it. That is the mentality at the club right now.”

Motherwell boss Steve Robinson revealed his men will not be kitted out in flash suits for Sunday’s showpiece and will turn up at Hampden in their club tracksuits.

Moult insists that is all part and parcel of Motherwel l ’s humble approach to life under the Northern Irishman.

He said: “The thinking behind it is we know what we are. We dress for every game the same way and we don’t wear suits so we won’t be wearing suits for the Cup Final. “It’s a small thing which pretty much sums up the character of the

team. We understand where we have come from as a group and as individuals as well as a club.

“I would prefer to wear a suit as I sweat like mad in a tracksuit. I remember the Liverpool team who wore the white suits for the FA Cup Final in 1996.

“I actually asked for a free suit and told them I wouldn’t wear it until full-time but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I’ll take a free tracksuit mind you!”

Moult also joked the players to a man all jumped at the chance of an overnight stay in a hotel before the Cup Final – in order to get some peace from their families.

He said: “It’s important for the boys to get some sleep before the Cup Final.

“The manager asked beforehand who wanted to sleep in a hotel the night before and all the lads with kids put their hands up and said yes.

“I was desperate for it just to have a couple of hours kip.

“I ’m lucky enough to have two beautiful girls. I have a picture of my three-year-old daughter Isla on my wash bag.

“Everything I do is for my kids and my family as they have been brilliant – they have backed me all the way.”

Moult insists he hasn’t even contemplated l i fe after Motherwell even though his contract expires in the summer.

He said: “I try not to think about the future and I just want to get on with things.”
