Broonie could follow Lenny boss route

-

BRENDAN RODGERS reckons Scott Brown could take the Neil Lennon route to management if he fancies becoming a boss.

The Celtic gaffer joked with his skipper he wasn’t ready for coaching after seeing pictures of him helping out during Scotland’s friendly against Holland.

Former Hoops skipper Lennon’s first coaching position was at Celtic under Gordon Strachan before he took charge of the reserves when Tony Mowbray was appointed boss.

Lennon then succeeded Mowbray as manager and Rodgers said: “Scott might want to do what Lenny did and go on from being captain to manage.

“Certainly if he finishes his career at Celtic there will be a place somewhere in the backroom staff for them. But it’s then what you want to do. You wouldn’t want Scott lost to the game.

“Whether he is a manager or not we’ll see. That old-fashioned way doesn’t work sometimes nowadays. I had a joke with him when I saw his picture picking up the balls (with Scotland). He didn’t look like he should be picking up the balls! He was reluctantly carrying the bag. But he’s got a few years left in him playing then it’s about what he fancies.”

Rodgers says Brown can take his time over his long-term international future. He said: “I don’t think you need to make a big decision on it now as there are no games until March. There is no pressure from me.”
