Fight off as Haye is rocked by injury

BOXER David Haye has been forced to postpone his rematch with Tony Bellew after tearing his biceps during training.

The i n j u r y - p rone heavyweigh­t, 37, has pulled out of the fight scheduled for December 17 at London’s O2 Arena but is not considerin­g retirement and hopes to instead fight his rival on March 24 or May 5.

Haye said: “I’m devastated to announce my muchantici­pated rematch against Tony Bellew has been postponed until March 24 or May 5, subject to scheduling.”

What Haye described as a “freak accident” occurred last Thursday, and led to a procedure yest erday afternoon that he insists has been successful.

He added: “I would like to apologise to Tony, his family and his training team, as well as all our fans who have been left disappoint­ed.”

SNOOKER: English Open champion Ronnie O’Sullivan is eyeing up the sport’s £1million bonus and would be halfway towards the amazing feat if he wins this week’s Northern Ireland Open in Belfast.

The Rocket begins his quest tonight against Lukas Kleckers of Germany.

CURLING: Scotland’s men’s recovered from a 6-4 defeat to Germany to record an 8-1 win over Slovakia at the European Championsh­ips in St Gallen, Switzerlan­d.

Despite the first roundrobin loss, the Scottish men, skipped by Kyle Smith from Perth, remain in a strong position to qualify for the weekend medal games after four wins.

In the women’s event, Scotland skipper Eve Muirhead won 8-1 against Italy, to make it three wins out of four and is also well placed for qualificat­ion.
