TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenager who died suddenly.

Police have launched an investigation after the body of 14-year-old Liam Rodgers was discovered in a house in the city’s south side on Sunday morning.

Emergency services rushed to the property in West Richmond Street but nothing could be done to save Liam.

It is understood he did not suffer from any known medical issues, with police sources saying: “It looks like he has died in his sleep.”

A source close to the family said: “His family are shocked and heartbroken. He was a lovely quiet lad.

“His brothers are in bits, as are his close friends. Fourteen is just way too short a life. Nobody can take it in. To lose a family member at any time of the year is horrendous but a child this close to Christmas is heartbreaking.”

A Facebook page, called Liam Rodgers GBNF [Gone But Not Forgotten], has been set up with plans to release sky lanterns in memory of the popular teen on Wednesday night in Saughton Mains.

The Lanterns for Liam event is scheduled to start at 7pm outside the Busy Bee pub and friends of the teenager are encouraged to attend to pay their respects.

One friend wrote: “No one deserves to die that young, especially a boy like Liam, not a bad bone in his body and never once heard anyone say anything negative about him. Truly one in a million. GBNF.”

Another posted: “God does only take the best, RIP Liam. You were the nicest boy, I will miss you so much, I love you, GBNF, always be in my heart.”

And one school friend wrote: “Sleep easy Liam my boy, will be missed like, you were some boy, RIP brother, love u.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to a residential address in the south side area of the city around 11.20am on Sunday, December 10 following the death of a 14-year-old boy.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained pending further enquiries and support is being offered to his family at this very difficult time. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
