Murty: I’m thrilled players stood up to be County-ed

-

GRAEME MURTY last night credited his Rangers players for refusing to wilt in the Ibrox pressure cooker on Saturday.

The caretaker boss was delighted with the way his team handled the increasingly disgruntled home support as they battled back from a half-time deficit to beat Ross County 2-1.

Murty admitted Rangers were below par for most of the match but was thrilled with the resilience they showed in grinding out the result that took them back to second in the table.

Speaking to Rangers TV he said: “You can’t always flow, dominate and dictate in perhaps the way we want to.

“But sometimes you have to scrap and grind a win out and sometimes those are as pleasing as the ones where you look really good. Things aren’t always going to go our way and we have to show a bit of resilience which we did.

“One of the things we have to cope with is the expectation of the crowd. They expect us to dominate and dictate all the time and I agree and concur with the fans – we should be doing that. It’s not always possible so we have to deal with that.

“We have to be strong enough to stand up and accept mistakes but I want players who are brave and go and get on the ball even if the last thing they did wasn’t particularly great or didn’t work.”

Alfredo (Morelos) kind of epitomised that with his goal – he did miss a chance but he got in there again and actually took his goal really well and looked quite composed in his finish.

“He had a lot to do with the set-up play but his finish was composed so good for him. I’m glad he got his goal. It’s a little bit of a monkey off his back, perhaps in the same way we have managed to get over that three wins in a row thing people keep talking about.”
