MSP Baillie weeps for hotel fire victims
MSP Jackie Baillie fought back tears yesterday as she raised the Cameron House fire tragedy with Nicola Sturgeon.
Baillie, whose Dumbarton constituency includes the luxury Loch Lomondside hotel, expressed condolences to the families of the couple who were killed.
And she praised the response of the emergency services to the incident. Baillie, who is understood to have many connections to the hotel, struggled to get through her question to Sturgeon at Holyrood.
She said: “Can I ask the First Minister, when the investigation is complete, will she ensure that lessons are learned, whether that’s in practice or if there is indeed a need to enhance building standards regulations?”
Sturgeon also offered her condolences to the families of victims Simon Midgley, 32, and Richard Dyson, 38, from London, and paid tribute to the emergency services.
She said: “There will be a thorough investigation into what happened at Cameron House and it is important that that investigation is allowed to run its course.
“But I can give an assurance that the Scottish Government … will make sure that any lessons that emerge from that investigation are learned and fully applied.”
More than 70 firefighters fought the blaze on Monday morning, which caused significant damage.
