Canning: We’renot playingit safeyet

MARTIN CANNING knows how Partick Thistle are feeling right now having faced the threat of relegation more times than he cares to remember.

Which is why the Hamilton boss can’t relax, even with the luxury of a six-point cushion, as he prepares to take his team to take on the Premiership’s bottom dogs.

Canning said: “Every club from fourth or fifth down has been involved in this at some point in the past couple of seasons when you’re down there and fighting hard for points.

“Our attitude is still the same, we’re fighting hard for it regardless of our position. You know what every other team is going through but you’ve got to forget that because it’s all about what you need.

“It’s got to be all about us doing our jobs. The league’s so tight you don’t need to do a lot right to win and much wrong to lose. You saw that in Thistle’s game with Motherwell.

“In the first half they were doing things right, scoring three. In the second, it’s not so right, they lose two and suddenly it’s a nervous end to avoid dropping points.

“So it’s from half to half it can all change let alone game to game. Today will be the exact same, there will be little between the teams.

“It doesn’t matter that Partick are at the bottom at the moment – when you look at the teams player for player there’s nothing between us.

“It will be a case of if you get the breaks you will go on and win the game and if you don’t you could easily lose it.

“As has happened to us in recent weeks. Last Saturday we performed poorly and won but in the previous game we performed well and got nothing.

“So it’s so tight in games that it will all come down to who gets the breaks and which team deserves it more today.”
