Hunger toplaya delight forboss

- SCOTT McDERMOTT sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

GRAEME MURTY knows plenty of young players who are happy to sit and pick up their wages without playing.

That’s why he has been so impressed by the character of Rangers new boy Sean Goss who was desperate to join the Ibrox club on loan.

When the 22-year-old midfielder didn’t feel he’d make the breakthrough at Manchester United he sought a move away from Old Trafford to play games.

And with his switch to QPR failing to pay dividends he had no hesitation in joining Rangers in the transfer window in a bid to kickstart his career.

Murty admits he is a big fan of Goss and says he will offer something different to Rangers’ engine room.

And the Ibrox boss says it’s a measure of the player he didn’t want to hang around at Loftus Road collecting cash.

Murty said: “I see lots of people now sitting on good money, comfortable with not playing football.

“But Sean wanted to come here and go again. That speaks volumes for him.

“We want to give him that platform and hopefully we can do as much for him as he’ll do for us.

“Sean will give us something different. When you look at what has been said about him in the past and his style of play I’m really happy to have him on board.

“He’ll go and get the ball, get our game started from the back of the pitch and has a lovely range of passing.

“He can extend the game with his left foot.

“When things are difficult for us and teams are hard to break down we need someone to dictate tempo and Sean can help us with that.

“I’ve told him to come here and work hard. He’s still only 22 and it says everything about him that at Man United he asked to leave because he wanted to play football.

“It hasn’t worked out for him at QPR but he’s come to Rangers to get going again.”
