Composer tells of his suicide pain
COMPOSER and theatre supremo Andrew Lloyd Webber has revealed a battle with depression which led him to consider suicide.
The multi-millionaire behind some of the world’s favourite musical reveals in his memoirs Unmasked that he contemplated killing himself as recently as three years ago.
Lloyd Webber says he was 15 when he first thought about suicide after becoming “deeply depressed” about his piano teacher mother’s infatuation with another pianist’s talents.
More recently, he almost succumbed to the turmoil brought on by a diagnosis of prostate cancer and bouts of severe back pain.
He said: “I did think of suicide. It was so painful and I couldn’t sleep and you go on thinking about it.”
Unmasked, published by HarperCollins, will be released on March 8. SHE’S known for her wacky ideas on nutrition – and Gillian McKeith also seems to have eccentric taste in fashion.
The 58-year-old You Are What You Eat star – known as the poo doctor for her habit of inspecting clients’ bowel movements – looked delighted to strut the London Fashion Week catwalk in a bizarre creation from Croatian label Olya Sookie.
McKeith and her daughter Afton, 17, sported semi-sheer bodysuits with scraps of material attached. And even her best 90s Spice Girls poses couldn’t disguise the fact that the outfit was, well … pants.
