CHELSIE WATSON’S penalty seven minutes from time gave Rangers victory over Spartans and their first three points of the season.

Carla Boyce scored her first goal for the club when she latched on to Claire Gemmell’s through ball three minutes before half-time.

Rachel Walkingshaw hit the bar for the home side before Michelle Russell got herself in behind the Rangers defence to equalise.

But Rangers finished strongly, and after Gemmell’s shot was tipped on to the bar, Brogan Hay was brought down in the box.

Watson stepped up to net and get Amy McDonald’s side up and running for the campaign following their Old Firm defeat the week before.

Celtic failed to build on that win having to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Stirling University.

Katy Morris gave the visitors the lead in three minutes when she finished from 20 yards out.

But within two minutes it was all square. Heather Richards’s free-kick took a slight deflection off the wall to deceive the keeper.

The draw leaves Celtic already trailing Glasgow City and Hibs by two points.

Abbi Grant’s 13th-minute goal for City was enough to see off Hamilton to give the champions two wins out of two. Hibs are the only other side in the top flight with maximum points after they beat Forfar 2-0.
