THE owner of an independence-themed pub was shoved by his wife as they argued about their marriage woes, a court heard yesterday.

Jim McLaughlin, who runs the Yes Bar in Glasgow, was pushed in the chest by wife Suzanne’s arm and elbow after an argument broke out at a restaurant in the city.

But Suzanne McLaughlin walked free from court after a sheriff said that she had “suffered enough”.

The couple, who were then separated, got into a row at the Ubiquitous Chip’s bar in Glasgow last November 8.

Jim reported the assault eight days later.

Aamer Anwar, defending, told Glasgow Sheriff Court his client, a part-time air hostess, is a sole earner and supports her two daughters. Jim is the younger girl’s father.

Anwar said the couple agreed to meet after Suzanne found out her husband had “allegedly committed fraud and gone online and transferred the Yes Bar Ltd companies from her name to his”.

He claimed she also received a notice that day to leave her house because her husband hadn’t paid the rent.

The court heard they were in a relationship for 10 years before marrying in 2013. The marriage broke down in January last year.

Anwar said the row flared up at the restaurant when Suzanne told Jim he shouldn’t be drinking because he had to pick their daughter up.

He added: “He just wouldn’t listen and as he got up, she pushed him back to stop him.”

Anwar said that Suzanne had suffered “years of alleged abuse” at the hands of her “emotionally controlling” and “verbally abusive” husband.

Suzanne, 48, wept as she admitted pushing Jim. Sheriff Lindsay Wood said: “He’s 6ft 2in, a trained fighter and she is being prosecuted for pushing him, with no injury.”

He told her: “You have suffered enough”, and granted an absolute discharge.
