Canning: It is time to keep back door shut

HAMILTON boss Martin Canning admits a lack of clean sheets is starting to drive him mad.

His dodgy defence haven’t shut out the opposition since their shock 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox on November 18.

Accies have the worst defence in the top flight and after shipping five against Gers at the weekend they sit second bottom, two points above Ross County.

Next up is a home clash against Partick Thistle, who are a point above them, and Canning has called on his players to cut out the kamikaze defending.

He said: “It seems to be the way things have gone since we came back from the winter break.

“It isn’t as if these are goals that make it 5-2, they’re goals that make it 1-0 or 2-1.

“Against Motherwell, Scott McMann passes back into our own net. The goal we gave Hearts put them 1-0 up in a game where they hadn’t had a shot at goal.

“These mistakes have come at big moments.

“We got ourselves ahead against Rangers but didn’t keep it long enough.

“We held it for five minutes then lost two soft goals. We get it back to 2-2 and then, within another five minutes, we’re 3-2 down. It’s very frustrating.

“If you defend like we did it is always difficult to get something. We hope that doesn’t happen again.”
