Ping pong champ in web ‘fling’ ding dong

- CRAIG ROBERTSON

TABLE tennis star Gavin Rumgay has been hit by bizarre online claims that he’d been cheating on his wife and using prostitutes.

The Scots star’s Facebook account is understood to have been hacked before the

strange post was put on his page. It remained on public view for several hours yesterday while he tried to have it taken down.

The Commonwealth Games star’s entire account was eventually deleted last night.

The hacker posted that Perthborn Rumgay, 33, who lives with his wife Jane in London, had been having a “serious affair” for more than three years.

Claiming to be Rumgay, the hacker wrote: “I told her I was going to leave my wife, Jane, but was unable to do so as it would mean I would lose everything.

“Jane has now found out and I will stay in the marriage. This is not the first time I have cheated.”

The ridiculous post also alleged Rumgay had been “messaging/ calling hookers” and had met up with them at table tennis events in the last year. The hacker added: “This has severely hurt everyone in my life.” The hacker also posted screenshots of conversations which they claimed Rumgay was having with a prostitute. Last night, sources close to Rumgay said his Facebook account and phone were hacked several days ago. Rumgay, who will represent Scotland in the Commonweath Games for the fourth time this year, is thought to be angry at the attempt to spread lies about him. He is believed to be out of the country and was not available on his mobile phone last night. A spokesman for his coaching business declined to comment and Jane could not be contacted.
