McInnes finds it strange Killie boss has made ‘an issue’ about Jones comments

- FRANK GILFEATHER

had both managers agreeing if it was a free-kick then Logan – who had been on a yellow card by the time of the foul on Jones – should have been sent off.

McInnes said: “I thought it had been dealt with and everyone would move on.

“But Steve has brought it into the public domain. So while it’s not up to me to talk about Jordan, or Tommy to talk about Jordan, it was Steve who brought his own player into the public domain and made an issue of it.

“If I wanted to make an issue of it I’d have mentioned he got booked against us for it a few weeks ago and has been booked for diving against other teams as well.

“I’d also have mentioned he was booked for diving last season too but didn’t do that. I didn’t think it appropriate to do that. I have no problem with Jordan, I have high regard for him and actually tried to buy him last summer.”

Meanwhile, McInnes praised Scott McKenna – expected to get a Scotland call-up for the Costa Rica and Hungary friendlies – for signing a new deal until 2023.

He said the 21-year-old’s attitude in negotiations was “refreshing” and added the defender knows he’ll win his big move after rejecting three Hull bids for him in January.

McKenna hopes he’s named by Alex McLeish on Monday but said: “I’ve never been to a Scotland game at Hampden – I went to one at Pittodrie against the Faroe Islands in 2010.”
