FORMER Scotland skipper Ryan Watson reckons he couldn’t have lost his record to a better bloke than Kyle Coetzer.
The current skipper’s 88no in Thursday’s World Cup qualifying win over Nepal saw him become the first Scot to score 5000 international runs.
Watson previously held the record of 4967 which had stood for almost a decade and he said: “They say records are there to be broken. I’m just delighted it has gone to such a brilliant batsman and great bloke.
“He’s been a superstar for Scotland and I’m sure he’ll go on and add many more runs to his record.”
ATHLETICS
BETH POTTER is desperate to test herself against triathlon’s best at the ITU World Cup Mooloolaba in Australia today.
The 26-year-old will join fellow Scot Grant Sheldon in a field that includes several of their Commonwealth Games rivals.
It’s another step up in class but Potter, who will also run the 10,000 metres at the Games, is ready to challenge herself against the elite.
She said: “I feel so much more confident now than what I did, even six months ago. I’ve tried to absorb as much as possible, especially about the bike and the swim. It’s the triathlon where I want to test myself.”
BASKETBALL
NEW Glasgow Rocks coach Darryl Wood believes he can get off to a winning start against Cheshire Phoenix tomorrow.
The caretaker coach – who took over from Tony Garbelotto – will give Will Hall and Warren Gillis their first appearances since rejoining third-placed Rocks.
Wood knows it’s vital they defend well against Cheshire to gain ground in the battle with Newcastle for second in the BBL.
He said: “It’s a great place to start. I’m not sure Cheshire can stop us scoring but we know they’re the kind of team who can go off if one of their guys gets hot so we need to stop that happening defensively.”
