MY NO LEWIS SITUATION

Pars star aiming to keep his Buddie Morgan quiet

- IAN ORR

RYAN WILLIAMSON believes St Mirren starlet Lewis Morgan can play a big part in Alex McLeish’s new-look Scotland team.

But the Dunfermline defender aims to keep his Under-21 team-mate quiet this afternoon.

Morgan has been tipped for a call-up to the full squad when McLeish names his selection on Monday and Williamson would not be surprised to see the on-loan Celtic winger included.

The Pars full-back has seen enough of the Buddies star as an opponent and an international colleague to realise he is destined for big things.

But the 21-year-old hopes the Fifers are celebrating today as they seek the win over the league leaders that could kick-start a promotion play-off push.

Williamson said: “I’ve played against Lewis a couple of times and played with him in the Scotland Under-21s.

“He’s dangerous and has so much ability and pace.

“I wasn’t surprised to see him linked with a Scotland call-up. He’s good enough for that.

“He’s a tricky opponent but I suppose it’s up to me to take him the other way and make him defend. Hopefully I’ll get some joy down the right.”

Dunfermline have had three call-offs in a fortnight and, after topping the table at the start of the campaign, aim to get back into the top four after falling five points behind Dundee United.

Williamson said: “It has been an up-and-down season. We had high hopes of having a chance of winning the league ourselves.

“It’s not quite worked out that way so it’s a case of regrouping and getting the wins.”

Meanwhile, Gavin Reilly insists St Mirren will make no apologies if the beautiful game turns ugly as they bid to land the Championship title.

The Buddies have won praise for their attacking play this season, a style that has helped Reilly to bag 21 goals already.

But with just 10 games to go and an eight-point lead at the top of the table, the ex-Pars striker admits wins are everything.

He said: “Anyone would have taken an eight-point lead at this stage in the season.

“It is a good gap. It is definitely catchable but we’re in a very good position and we’re confident that if we keep going the way we are then we can get ourselves over the line.”
