Dead mum’s girl & sis on murder rap

BY GRANT MCCABE A WOMAN’S sister and daughter have gone on trial accused of her murder.

Lynnette Greenop, 40, and Shayla Greenop, 20, are charged with killing Sharon Greenop at the home they shared in Troon, Ayrshire.

It’s claimed Sharon, 46, was assaulted on various occasions between September and November 2016, was repeatedly struck with “object or objects” and had her neck compressed.

Sharon is said to have been so severely hurt that she died.

Lynnette Greenop faces further accusation­s of assault, theft and of claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Both women, of Ayr, deny the allegation­s.

The trial, at the High Court in Glasgow, continues. COMEDY legend Sir Billy Connolly has told of his love for Scotland but insists he is the “least patriotic man in the world”.

The Big Yin – who lives in America with his wife Pamela Stephenson – spoke about his relationsh­ip with his homeland in an interview ahead of a new television documentar­y he worked on.

And he revealed his dismay at fellow Scots who are disparagin­g of our English neighbours.

Billy, 75, a keen painter, speaks about Scotland and England in a Sky Arts programme celebratin­g one of his favourite artists, Englishman Stanley Spencer.

He said: “I’m the least patriotic man in the world. I do love Scotland but if the love for your country is all you have, you’re in a desperate state.

“I dislike people that write England off because they’re Scottish. It’s unfair and brutal.”

In an interview for the Radio Times, he also revealed how the walls of the New York home he shares with his wife of 28 years are adorned with art including portraits of Elvis and Mick Jagger, and a painting of The Beatles.

There’s also a picture of him meeting Barack Obama.

Despite watching politics shows on television, Billy admits to “failing miserably” at trying to make sense of public affairs at times. The
